This prescription is known as the Heart-Draining Decoction for Shaoyin disease, meaning it is used for the Heart-Draining Decoction pattern of deficiency. In the prescription, Coptis Rhizome and Skullcap Root are originally the foundational herbs of the Heart-Draining Decoction. Since the syndrome is deficient, Rhubarb Rhizoma is omitted, and Donkey-hide Gelatin, Peony Root, and egg yolk are added. It is designed for heart and kidney blood deficiency. Peony Root tonifies blood, harmonizes yin, and astringes the heart and kidney. Donkey-hide Gelatin tonifies blood, enriches yin, and regulates blood circulation. egg yolk nourishes the kidney and benefits the heart. When these herbs are used together, they collectively nourish body fluids, clear internal heat, and alleviate restlessness.
