This prescription is used to treat globus hystericus, which is caused by excessive worry and overthinking, stagnation of the seven emotions, qi stagnation and phlegm coagulation, obstructing the throat. It is the mutual binding of phlegm and qi, so the treatment should focus on both moving qi and resolving phlegm. In the prescription, Pinellia resolves phlegm and dissipates mass, lowers qi and counteracts adverse flow; Magnolia Bark regulates qi and relieves depression, lowers qi and relieves fullness, both serving as sovereign medicinals. Cultivated purple perilla stem assists Pinellia and Magnolia Bark to widen the chest and soothe the middle, and to disperse stagnant qi; Poria invigorates the spleen and drains dampness, and assists Pinellia in resolving phlegm, both serving as minister medicinals; Fresh Ginger Rhizome is pungent and warm, dispersing and assisting Pinellia to harmonize the middle and stop vomiting, serving as an assistant medicinal. The combination of these medicinals uses pungent to disperse binding and bitter to lower adverse flow, pungent dispersing and bitter descending, resolving phlegm and lowering adverse flow, thus curing all symptoms.

1. belching and acid regurgitation: add Coptis Rhizome and Evodia Fruit.
2. Irritability, delirium, and constipation: combine with Bupleurum Decoction Plus Dragon Bone and Oyster Shell.
3. Nocturnal emission and poor sleep: combine with Cinnamon Twig Decoction plus Dragon Bone and Oyster Shell.
4. Vocal cord polyps: combine with Ophiopogon Decoction and add Gardenia.
