[Indications]

external contraction wind heat syndrome/pattern. Cough, slight sore throat, slight thirst, low body heat, red tip of tongue, white and thin coating, and floating pulse.

This formula is a pungent-cool and mild formula. It is a commonly used formula for those with early onset of wind-warmth, evil in the lungs, and mild exterior heat. In the prescription, Mulberry Leaf and Chrysanthemum Flower are sweet, bitter and cool in nature, which can dissipate upper energizer wind-heat and clear the heat of the lung meridian. Together they are sovereign medicinal, and are used as Party name. I use the pungent and cool Mentha to strengthen the power of mulberry and chrysanthemum releasing exterior with pungent-cool; Platycodon Root and Bitter Apricot Seed Compatible with each other, one rises and one falls, it can clear lung qi, relieve cough and resolving phlegm; Forsythia clearing heat and removing toxin, and clear and transparent, can enhance the effect of dispersing wind and clearing heat; Reed Rhizome clearing heat and promoting fluid production, quenching thirst, both are assistant medicinal; Liquorice Root reconciles various medicines, matches Platycodon Root, It can clear disinhibiting benifiting the pharynx throat, resolving phlegm and relieving cough.

External contraction can be used by those who have cough due to wind-heat at the beginning, slight sore throat, slight thirst, and moderate body heat.

[Addition and subtraction]

1. For severe sore throat: add Great Burdock Achene, Silver Flower, Belamcanda Rhizome.
2. For severe cough: add Coltsfoot Flower and Trichosanthis Fruit.
3. In phlegm, add blood: add lalang grass rhizome and Hinoki cypress.
4. Heat or severe thirst: add gypsum, Anemarrhena, Snakegourd Root.
5. Epidemic conjunctivitis: Add Puncturevine Caltrop Fruit, Cassia Seed, Prunella.
6. For severe lung heat: add Skullcap Root.

This prescription reduces inflammation, reduces fever and relieves cough. Used for common cold, influenza, acute bronchitis, upper respiratory tract infection, cough, dizzy vision, epidemic conjunctivitis.
