This prescription is indicated for external contraction of wind-cold and dampness invading the exterior, with internal accumulation of heat. In the formula, Notopterygium is acrid, bitter, and warm in nature, inducing sweating to release the exterior, dispelling wind, eliminating dampness, and relieving pain, serving as the sovereign medicinal. Saposhnikovia Root and Atractylodes Rhizome assist the sovereign medicinal in enhancing the effects of inducing sweating and dispelling dampness. Asarum, Sichuan Lovage Rhizome, and Dahurian Angelica disperse wind-cold, promote the movement of qi and blood, and alleviate headache and body pain. Skullcap Root and Unprocessed Rehmannia Root clear and purge internal heat, while also moderating the drying effects of the acrid and warm medicinals to prevent damage to body fluids, serving as assistant medicinals. Liquorice Root harmonizes the various medicinals and acts as the guiding medicinal.
