Tang, female, 24 years old, diagnosed on August 20, 1977. Eight days ago, due to headache and body aches, aversion to cold with fever, and sweating, she took a dose of Chinese medicinals (modified Ephedra Decoction). After taking the medicine, she experienced profuse sweating, and the headache and body aches were relieved, with aversion to cold with fever alleviated. Recently, she has been experiencing aversion to cold with fever every morning and evening, each episode lasting about an hour. Examination revealed a thin white tongue coating and a full, large pulse. Body temperature was 37.1°C. The syndrome was caused by excessive sweating due to an exterior pattern, with the pathogen not being resolved, leading to yang exuberance on the exterior and pathogenic qi lingering between the skin and muscles, contending with healthy qi. The diagnosis was taiyang disease with mild pathogen and unresolved exterior stagnation. Treatment should involve a light formula with acrid and warm properties to slightly induce sweating and disperse the mild pathogen. The prescribed formula was Cinnamon Twig Two Ephedra One Decoction:
Cinnamon Twig, Peony Root, each 5g; Ephedra, Prepared Liquorice Root, each 3g; Bitter Apricot Seed, 6g; Fresh Ginger Rhizome, 2 slices; Chinese Date, 2 pieces
. The condition was resolved after taking one dose of the medicine.
