Li, male, 62 years old, diagnosed on July 12, 1989. Initially, the patient had fever without sweating, headache, and body pain. After self-administering terramycin and paracetamol for 4 days, the fever and chills subsided, but sudden vertigo occurred, as if riding in a boat or car, worsening in the afternoon, with gasping and inability to lie flat. The local hospital treated with Western medicine for Yaodui symptoms, but no effect was seen.

At the time of diagnosis, the patient had dizziness, headache, flushed face with heat sensation, dysphoria and restlessness, dry mouth with excessive drinking, no bowel movement for three to four days, dark urine, red tongue with yellow and dry coating, and deep, solid pulse. The syndrome was attributed to yangming heat accumulation, with turbid qi rising and rushing, leading to vertigo. The treatment aimed to clear the bowels and heat, reduce turbidity, and stabilize vertigo, using Stomach-Regulating Purgative Decoction:
Rhubarb Rhizoma (to be decocted later) Mirabilite (take infused) 10g each, Liquorice Root 5g
. After taking 2 doses, bowel movements became smooth, and vertigo immediately subsided.
