Ms. Heng, female, 65 years old, first consultation on June 4, 1987. She has been suffering from vertigo for several years, with symptoms fluctuating in severity; in severe cases, she must lie flat, while in milder cases, she can sit or stand but has difficulty walking. Accompanied by aversion to cold, without sweating, flushed face, chest tightness, dysphoria, anorexia, insomnia, and lack of strength. The tongue is slightly red with thin white coating, less coating in the center of the tongue, and the pulse is wiry, thin, and rapid. Prescribed Bupleurum, Cinnamon Twig and Dried Ginger Decoction combined with Licorice, Wheat and Jujube Decoction, 3 doses.
Follow-up on June 7: The previous prescription was ineffective, and all symptoms remained unchanged. After re-examining the symptoms, the same Bupleurum, Cinnamon Twig and Dried Ginger Decoction was used, following the original formula:
Bupleurum 25g, Cinnamon Twig 10g, Dried Ginger 10g, Mongolian Snakegourd Root 12g, Skullcap Root 10g, Oyster Shell 6g, Roasted Licorice 6g
After taking only 1 dose of the above prescription, the vertigo stopped. After completing 3 doses, her appetite improved, sleep quality enhanced, and her spirit lifted, allowing her to walk freely. She only felt slight chest tightness, so the original prescription was continued for more than 10 doses as a follow-up treatment.
