Mr. Ding, male, 49 years old, was treated on June 13, 1977. Half a year ago, he suffered from infectious jaundice hepatitis. After the jaundice subsided, he appeared thin and sallow, with a body yellow as if smoked. The jaundice index was within the normal range, and multiple doses of tonifying and replenishing qi and blood medications were ineffective. Symptoms included dark circles under the eyes, mild fever in the skin, vexing heat in the chest, palms, and soles, insomnia, frequent anger, abdominal distension and fullness, reduced appetite, difficulty in bowel movements, and normal urination with occasional yellow or clear urine. The pulse was deep and choppy, and the tongue was thin with ecchymosis. This was due to stasis heat internally, and the treatment should focus on resolving stasis and purging heat. The prescription used:
leech, Peach Kernel, Rhubarb, Rhizoma, each 90g, gadfly 30g
ground into fine powder, made into honey pills, taken 3 grams each time, three times a day. Initially, black stools were passed, appetite increased, and vexation ceased. Continued use allowed for better sleep at night, gradual fading of body yellowing, and complete recovery after finishing the medication.
