Debark Peony root and ginseng root have an effect on increasing the production of hemolysin antibodies and delayed allergic reactions inhibited by cyclic phosphate amine; they also enhance the phagocytosis of macrophages and the induction of interferon. In addition, Debark Peony Root also enhances the experimentally reduced thymocyte proliferation response and has a bidirectional regulating effect on the release of hydrogen peroxide from rat peritoneal macrophages induced by zymosan. In terms of clinical pharmacology, both Debark Peony Root and ginseng root have anti-stress, anti-fatigue, sedation, memory enhancement, regulation of neuroendocrine activity, anti-radiation and anti-hepatotoxicity, and regulation of cellular and humoral immunity. Ginseng root has advantages in regulating the function of heart blood vessels and regulating cell metabolic processes; while Debark Peony Root has effects that ginseng root does not have in terms of analgesia, improving sleep, and treating hepatitis B.
