A young boy, 1 year old, first consultation in early September 1969. Fever for more than 10 days, morning fever 38°C; delayed onset fever reaching 39°C in the evening; dry lips, scanty and yellow urine. No improvement after several days of fever reduction with both Chinese and Western medicine.
Examination showed thin tongue coating, slightly purple finger veins. Mainly treated with Ophiopogon Tuber, Anemarrhena, Mongolian Snakegourd Root, Liquorice Root, and other fluids-generating and heat-clearing medicinals. After taking the medicine, the fever slightly reduced but increased diarrhea and flatulence. I then followed the "Jingui Yaolue" which states, "For diarrhea with qi, promote urination." Used Five Ingredients with Poria Powder to transform qi and promote urination, allowing the dampness to be expelled through urine. Once the dampness was removed, the heat had nothing to cling to and also dissipated. With the dampness gone and heat dissipated, qi movement recovered, thus all symptoms reduced and the illness was cured.
