His ancestral home is Fuzhou (today's west of Fuzhou City, Jiangxi Province), and he later moved to Nanfeng (today's Nanfeng County, Jiangxi Province). He was born into a family of doctors. His great ancestor Wei Yunshan followed Dong Feng's 25th generation grandson Dong Jing to practice large formula medicine (internal medicine), and he later became the fifth generation of medical practitioners. Never fade. His great-uncle Wei Zi was a woman from the College of Fine Arts and a member of the bonesetting Jindao and other departments. His father, Wei Biya, studied pediatrics with Zhou Boxi, then studied ophthalmology and also treated diseases. Wei Yi-lin was eager to learn since childhood and started practicing medicine at the age of 20. In addition to inheriting the medical skills passed down from his ancestors, he also studied sores, throat, oral cavity and other subjects. His medical skills were comprehensive, and he was most accomplished in Orthopedics and Traumatology. It was compiled into 19 volumes of Shiyi Dexiao Fang in 1337. After being interrogated by Taiyiyuan, it was published in 1345.

Shiyi Dexiao Fang's achievements in Orthopedics and Traumatology represented the development level of Orthopedics and Traumatology in China during the Jin and Yuan Dynasties, ranking at the forefront of world medicine at that time.
