[description]

He probably lived between the 11th and 12th centuries, and his courtesy name was Shen Yuan. Originally from Jinyang, Shuzhou (now Chongqing, Sichuan), he was born into a family of world-famous doctors. He had a deep understanding of classical formula and was famous for a while. During the Yuanyou period (1086-1094), at the invitation of Shu commander Li Duanbo, he went to Chengdu to practice medicine and lived in Huayang (the southeastern suburb of Chengdu at that time), so he became a Huayang native. Although Tang's language is simple and his appearance is unattractive, he is wise and sensitive, has superb medical skills and noble medical ethics. Regardless of whether the patient is high or low, he will go when called, rain or shine. He never charges money for treating illnesses of scholars, but only asks for remuneration in recording famous prescriptions and secrets, so scholars like to make friends with him. Every time a prescription or medicine is found in the classics and history books, it must be recorded and consulted. As a result, a wealth of pharmaceutical information has been accumulated. The compilation of Jingshi Zhenglei Beiji Bencao for the Tang family broadened their knowledge and provided favorable conditions. From 1082 to 1083, after reading the first draft of the book, Minister Zuo Gong Pu Chuanzheng wanted to recommend Tang to be an official, but Tang refused and continued to revise and add to his materia medica work, which was finalized after about 1098. The completion of 31 volumes reflects the development level of pharmacology in the Song Dynasty. Tang Shen-wei completed such a magnificent and exquisite pharmaceutical masterpiece with his own efforts. After its publication, it had a significant impact at home and abroad.
