After mastering his craft, he practiced medicine among the people for a long time, traveling extensively through the states of Qi (Shandong), Zhao (Hebei), Zheng (Hunan), and Qin (Shaanxi). He was proficient in the four diagnostic methods: inspection, auscultation and olfaction, inquiry, and palpation, particularly renowned for his skills in inspection and pulse diagnosis. Ancient texts such as Shiji, "Strategies of the Warring States," and "Liezi" contain his biographies and medical cases. "Strategies of the Warring States: Qin Ce" records: Bian Quevisited King Wu of Qin, who showed him his illness. Bian Querequested to treat it. The king's attendants said, "Your illness is before the ears and below the eyes. Treating it may not cure it and could result in loss of hearing and vision." The king relayed this to Bian Que. Bian Queangrily threw down his stone and said, "You consult with those who know and then with those who do not know, ruining the treatment. If this is how the state of Qin is governed, then with one move, you could destroy the country!"

He excelled in internal medicine, surgery, gynecology, and pediatrics, and could practice medicine according to the needs of the people in various regions. His treatment methods were diverse, not only skilled in using herbal decoctions but also in employing stone needles, acupuncture and moxibustion, massage, hot compresses, and surgical therapies. With rich medical practical experience, he proposed the viewpoint that "those who believe in witchcraft and not in medicine cannot be cured," and he spent his life fighting against witchcraft and superstition. Due to his exceptional medical skills and expertise, he incurred the jealousy of the imperial physician Li Xi, who had him assassinated. Because of his extraordinary medical skills, akin to the legendary divine doctor Bian Que, people referred to him as Bian Que.
