bubble_chart Description A native of Yongjia (present-day Yongjia County, Zhejiang Province), he devoted his youth to studying medicine and preparing for the imperial examinations, focusing particularly on medical research. He diligently applied himself to the theory and techniques of disease diagnosis, drawing on the theories of Neijing, Zujing, and Jiayi Jing, and cross-referencing them with works on pulse studies and diagnostic methods. He classified and compiled these into the Chabing Zhinan in three volumes (1241). The book primarily focuses on pulse diagnosis, adopting the "Seven Exterior, Eight Interior, and Nine Pathways" classification of 24 pulses, and creatively illustrating 33 pulse manifestation diagrams. It is one of the earliest extant specialized works on diagnostics. He also authored the Xu Yijian Fang Lun in six volumes (1243). Additionally, he wrote Materia Medica Bianyi, which is now lost.
