Medicine is the foundation of prescriptions. As the ancients said, "Using medicine is like deploying troops." Formulating a prescription is akin to commanding an army, where each herb is like a basic command in programming or a word or phrase in writing. Only by understanding the characteristics and precise meanings of each command, word, or phrase can one write durable programs or beautiful articles. Similarly, in traditional Chinese medicine, each herb has its own personality, thermal nature (cold, hot, warm, cool), and scope of action (meridian tropism). Without a clear understanding of the properties of each herb, it is impossible to create a robust, elegant, and effective prescription.
