8 volumes, written by Wang Ang, published in the 33rd year of the Kangxi reign (1694). This book can be regarded as a clinical drug manual and also as a medical primer. It mainly draws material from Bencao Gangmu and Shennong Bencao Jingshu. The beginning of the volume contains a general discussion on medicinal properties, summarizing the nature, flavor, meridian tropism, and the essentials of processing materia medica. Volume 1 includes 191 types of herbal medicines, Volume 2 includes 83 types of wood medicines, Volume 3 includes 31 types of fruit medicines, Volume 4 includes 40 types of grain and vegetable medicines, Volume 5 includes 58 types of metal, stone, and wood medicines, Volume 6 includes 25 types of bird and animal medicines, Volume 7 includes 41 types of scale, shell, fish, and insect medicines, and Volume 8 includes 9 types of human medicines, totaling 478 types. Each medicine first identifies its qi, flavor, shape, and color, then describes the meridians and collaterals it affects, its functions, and its main treatments. Based on the "ten kinds of formula" to which the medicine belongs, it is recorded at the beginning of each medicine. Later editions also added more than 400 medicinal illustrations, making it more comprehensive. This book has many editions and has been widely circulated.
