bubble_chart Description Written by Wang Hao-gu in three volumes, published in 1308. The book primarily compiles the medical discourses of his teacher Li Gao, and also reflects Wang Hao-gu's related medical thoughts. The main extant versions include the Jisheng Bocui edition, the Complete Collection of Ancient and Modern Medical Classics edition, and the annotated edition by Jiangsu Science and Technology Publishing House in 1985.
The book is divided into two volumes and an appendix, containing a total of 104 specialized discourses. The first volume mainly discusses the physiology and pathology of zang-fu organs, meridians, and collaterals, the invasion of the six excesses, key points of syndrome differentiation, and issues related to the treatment of the five meridians (missing the Jueyang meridian), with the most content on cold-damage disease. The second volume extensively covers topics related to Neijing, Nan Jing, pulse methods, acupuncture and moxibustion, etc., often accompanied by charts to aid explanation. The "Appendix" mainly contains content on the diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
The book focuses on detailed explanations of issues related to the five meridian syndromes of cold-damage disease, such as "Taiyang (EX-HN5) six transmissions," "those entering the yin can be purged," and "women's menstrual diseases," with some unique insights. For example, it suggests that for qi diseases on the exterior, mistakenly using blood-nourishing medicine is harmless and can calm the blood and benefit yin; conversely, for blood diseases in the interior, mistakenly using qi-regulating medicine like White Tiger Decoction can be harmful, as it may easily lead to purging the lungs and damaging yin. It emphasizes treating the root cause of diseases while advocating for different treatment methods based on the condition, such as proposing that the initial treatment should balance leniency and severity, while the final treatment should be more lenient, with each of the three methods having its main indications and applications.
