This book is also known as Su Shen Nei Han Liang Fang, originally consisting of 15 volumes. It was compiled by an anonymous editor in the late Northern Song Dynasty (some say the Southern Song Dynasty) based on Shen Kuo's Liang Fang (also known as De Xiao Fang, Shen Shi Liang Fang, Shen Cun-zhong Liang Fang) in 10 volumes and Su Shi's Su Xue Shi Fang (also known as Yi Yao Za Shuo). The current popular version is in 10 volumes. The book resembles a medical essay in style, extensively discussing various aspects of medicine. Volume 1 covers pulse theory, zang-fu organs, materia medica, and moxibustion; volumes 2 to 5 introduce internal medicine Zabing and treatment prescriptions; volume 6 focuses on health preservation and alchemy; volumes 7 to 10 discuss diseases and treatment prescriptions for the five sense organs, surgery, pediatrics, and gynecology. Various diseases are often accompanied by case studies, and the discussions on the properties and flavors of materia medica, collection, combination of medicinals, and dosage forms are also very insightful. The treatment prescriptions are mostly compiled from the author's firsthand experiences, being simple, practical, and relatively reliable, offering certain clinical reference value. The "Yang Lian Method" and "Yin Lian Method" for the preparation of prepared salt in volume 6 are methods for artificially extracting relatively pure sex hormones, representing a significant achievement in pharmaceutical chemistry. See Annals of Physiology (1971). The earliest extant version of this book is the Jiajing edition from the Ming Dynasty; there are multiple editions from the Qing Dynasty, mainly including the Siku Quanshu edition and the Liu Li Zhai Yi Shu edition, among others. The People's Medical Publishing House in mainland China published a photolithographic edition in 1956.
