This book first appeared in Sui Shu-Jingjizhi, and was subsequently recorded in Old Tang Book?Bibliographical Treatise and New Tang Book?Treatise on Arts and Literature. It was cited in the Tang dynasty's Xinxiu Bencao and the Song dynasty's Zhenglei Bencao. By the ninth year of the Kaiyuan era of the Tang dynasty (721), this book still existed in its complete form. In the eleventh year of the Tianbao era (752), Wang Tao also saw and read this book at the Hongwen Academy. However, due to the limited application of printing technology during the Sui and Tang periods, the massive volume of the work, and the impacts of preservation, dissemination, and the ravages of war, the book was lost after the Tang dynasty.
