"Xi" (膝), knee; "yan" (眼), eye. The depressions on both sides of patellar ligament at knee joint resemble eye sockets, and the acupoint is located above them, hence the name "Xiyan" (knee eye).

With knee flexed, the points are located in the depressions on both sides of patellar ligament. The medial depression is called Neixiyan (EX-LE4, medial knee eye), and the lateral depression is called Waixiyan (EX-LE5, lateral knee eye).

  • Vessels: arteriovenous network of knee joint.
