Next to larynx at neck, at anterior edge of sternocleidomastoid muscle, at the pulse point of common carotid artery. 1.5 cun beside larynx.

- Muscles: platysma, followed by sternocleidomastoid.
- Nerves: transverse cervical nerve, cervical branch of facial nerve; the deep layer is the carotid bulb; the deepest layer is the sympathetic trunk, and the lateral side is the descending branch of the hypoglossal nerve and the vagus nerve.
- Vessels: There is the superior thyroid artery in the deep layer, which is approximately the junction of the internal and external carotid arteries; the superficial vein in the anterior neck; and laterally, the internal jugular vein.

With the patient in a supine position, slowly insert the needle to a depth of 0.3 to 0.5 cun perpendicularly. Avoid puncturing arteries or veins, do not retain the needle, and avoid performing acupuncture in a seated position or with excessive stimulation. Direct moxibustion is contraindicated.
