In the platysma muscle and submandibular gland, along the front edge of the sternocleidomastoid muscle, through the stylohyoid muscle and digastric muscle, to the hyoidoglossus muscle. The superficial layer contains the facial artery and vein; the mandibular branch of the facial nerve, the cervical branch, and the anterior cervical cutaneous nerve. There is the lingual artery in the deep layer; there is the hypoglossal nerve.
