"Shen" (神), spirit; "ting" (庭), courtyard or open space in front of residence. Brain is the residence of primordial spirit, and face is the courtyard of spirit. This acupoint is located above face, hence the name. It is also at anterior hairline, so it is also called "Faji" (髮際, hairline).

On the midline of forehead, 0.5 cun behind anterior hairline.
- Zhenjiu Jiayi Jing: "At hairline, directly above nose";
- Waitai Miyao: "0.5 cun within hairline, directly above nose";
- Leijing Tuyi: "Directly above nose, 0.5 cun within hairline. For those with a high hairline, the hairline itself is the point; for those with a low hairline, add 2~3 fen".
