"Ji" (脊), spine; "zhong" (中), center or middle. This acupoint is located at 11th vertebra, which is the midpoint of 22 spinal segments, hence the name.

On the midline of back, in the depression below spinous process of 11th thoracic vertebra.
  • Zhenjiu Jiayi Jing: "Located in the space below 11th vertebral joint." It can also be located at the prominence of spinous process.
  • Leijing Tuyi BOOK>: "When selecting acupoints along governor vessel on spine, they should be located at the prominent points of vertebral joints".
