"Li" (蠡), ladle, describing calf; "gou" (溝), groove or ditch. This acupoint is located in the groove in front of calf, hence the name. Huangdi Neijing Taisu Yang Shang-shan states: "'Li' (蠡) means a ladle. The area behind shinbone forms a hollow space, resembles the groove of a ladle, hence the name."

Located on the inner side of calf, five cun above the tip of inner ankle, in the middle of inner surface of tibia. It is at the midpoint of the line connecting the tip of inner ankle and Diji (SP8).

Insert subcutaneously upwards or downwards 0.5 to 1 cun, or insert it straight along the posterior edge of tibia 0.5 to 1 cun. Moxibustion with moxa cone 1 to 3 times, moxibustion with moxa stick for 3 to 5 minutes.
