"Jing" (京) is interchangeable with "Yuan" (原), meaning source; "men" (門), door or gateway. Kidney governs primordial qi of body, and this point is the front-mu point of kidney, serving as the gateway for kidney qi.

On the lateral side of lower back, in the depression below the free end of twelfth rib, approximately 1.8 cun anterior to Zhangmen (LR13) and roughly level with Zhishi (BL52).
  • Zhenjiu Jiayi Jing: "Below iliac crest, in lower back, 1.8 cun posterior to lower ribs";
  • Beiji Qianjin Yaofang: "At iliac crest in back, near lower ribs, adjacent to spine";
  • Xunjing Kaoxue Bian: "Located at the midpoint between Shenque (CV8) and Mingmen (GV4)." This can be used as a reference for locating the point.
