[Origin]

Jugu (LI16) originally refers to the clavicle; the point is located behind the acromial end of the clavicle, hence the name.

[Anatomy]

  • Muscles: trapezius, deep layer is supraspinatus.
  • Nerves: branches of the supraclavicular nerve, branches of the accessory nerve, and the deep suprascapular nerve.
  • Vessels: suprascapular artery and vein.

[Manipulation]

Perpendicular insertion 0.5~1 inch, not too deep. moxa cone moxibustion 3 ~ 5 strong, moxibustion with moxa stick 5 ~ 10 minutes.

[Efficacy]

subduing swelling and dissipating bind.

  • Classical: pain in the back and arms, static blood in the chest, pain in the shoulders and arms due to inflexion and extension, fright epilepsy, hematemesis, scrofula, hyperthyroidism.
  • Modern: Supraspinatus tendonitis.

  • Without raising arms: Jugu (LI16), Qiangu (SI2).
