[Origin]
Tian refers to the high part; Ao refers to the window and refers to the ear. The point is near the ears and high on the neck, hence the name.

On the side of the neck, at the posterior edge of the sternocleidomastoid muscle, directly below the posterior edge of the mastoid process of the temporal bone and at the same level as the angle of the mandible,
Tianrong (SI17) and
Tianzhu (BL10) The midpoint of the connecting line.
- Zhenjiu Jiayi Jing: "Between the cervical tendons, on Quepen (ST12), Tianrong (SI17) Back, Tianzhu (BL10) front, Wangu (GB12) back (bottom), hairline top."
- Leijing Tuyi added: "Pinch the upper part of the ear one inch behind";
- Xunjing Kaoxue Bian: "The whole part of the jawbone is stuck on the flesh";
- Zhenjiu Jicheng: "The next inch is slightly outside Fengchi (GB20)";
[Anatomy]
- Muscles: sternocleidomastoid, splenius capitis and cervical muscles, semispinalis capitis and cervical muscles.
- Nerve: Lesser occipital nerve.
- Vessel: Occipital artery.
[Manipulation]
Perpendicular insertion 0.5~1 inch. moxa cone moxibustion 1 to 3 times, moxa stick warm moxibustion for 5 to 15 minutes.
[Efficacy]
Clear head wind, brighten ears and eyes.
- Classical: headache, dizziness, facial swelling, sudden deafness, pharyngitis, stuffy nose, epistaxis, scrofula, eye pain, disturbed night dreams, shoulder and back pain, strong neck.
[Recipe]
- Xiang Qiang should not be considered: Tianyou (TE16), Houxi (SI3).
- Swollen face: Tianyou (TE16), Aixi, Fengchi (GB20).
- Sore throat: Tianyou (TE16), Hegu (LI4).
- Lower back pain and difficulty in turning: Fengchi (GB20), Tianyou (TE16), Hegu (LI4), Kunlun (BL60).
