The back of wrist belongs to "Yang" (陽), and the shallow depression is referred to as "chi" (池). The acupoint is located in the depression on dorsal side of wrist, hence its name.

On transverse crease of dorsal wrist, in the depression on ulnar side of extensor digitorum tendon.
- Lingshu‧Benshu: "In the depression on wrist";
- Xunjing Kaoxue Bian: "Directly below finger joints, at the center of dorsal wrist between two tendons" That is, in the depression between extensor digitorum tendon and extensor digiti minimi tendon on dorsal wrist.
