"Ting" (聽), hearing; "gong" (宮), palace. Ears are for hearing, and palace symbolizes centrality. The point is located in front of the central part of tragus, hence the name.

On face, in front of the center of tragus (ear prominence), posterior to condylar process of mandible. It forms a depression when mouth is open.

Slightly open mouth to move mandibular condyle forward, avoiding blood vessels. Insert perpendicularly or slightly downward at an angle, to a depth of 0.5~1.5 cun. If insert at an 85° angle, direct forward and downward (toward contralateral masseter muscle) to a depth of 2.5 cun, one can pass behind the posterior border of mandibular condyle and anterior of styloid process, reaching the space between posterior pharyngeal wall and the anterior border of C1~C2 vertebrae. Direct moxibustion is contraindicated. Moxibustion with moxa sticks for 10 to 15 minutes.
